Thanks for your comments, Tree. I have responded to your feeling of being controlled at http://storyfieldconversations.wordpress.com/2007/05/28/hello-from-the-new-registrar/#comment-12

Regarding the tags: Participants WILL be able to create their own tags (although only for the actual postings; unfortunately, WordPress doesn't allow tagging of comments). Refer to the above URL for info about how the system recognizes Participants.

There is such a thing as a taxonomy, which is a pre-formed group of categories, and then there is a folksonomy, which is a group of categories created on the fly by all the participants. Our approach is a mix of these two. We wanted to invite people to use some standard categories (which creates a common ground -- since people may make tags like "drawing" and "drawings" which then don't help select all the entries having to do with drawings) AND we wanted people to be able to tag their entries in any way they want. As soon as someone creates a new tag it is added to the tag list. I hope this clarifies.

At the top of the blog, Tom, you have a lovely statement of intention. I love that box, the one that says 'a co-created gallery'. . . . . and then you have retained control. . . . weird to me

I am disappointed, Tom, that you have started out trying to control the direction this blog might take in advance. . . gee, it mighta been nice if you had allowed participants to co-create the tag list. . . . over here in my world, I believe the metastory of the human future will involve lots of openness and co-creation and all voices will be able to, well, voice themselves. . .
